- Don't use the premade k-cups. They are expensive at about .55 cents per cup, and they are made out of plastic that can end up back in our landfills.

- Find a really good coffee bean - There are many options available and you may already even have a favorite coffee that you currently brew that you can still use in your Keurig machine.
- Grind your own coffee - you can buy the pre-ground coffee if you don't have a grinder. The best results come from grinding whole beans and they are very inexpensive such as the Krups Coffee Grinder with Stainless Steel Blades
. When you grind your coffee make sure you set it to the finest grind as possible because it needs to fit into the small filter and its yields better results as the water doesn't spend as much time brewing over the coffee.
There is something in this video that he does that I have never tried before but it makes sense, to heat up the creamer and put it in the cup first before brewing. In my Keurig machine, I've always used the largest cup size rather than the smaller one but it really does make a difference. Lastly make sure to clean the filter right away. This really does take away from the ease of use of the Keurig since you can't just discard the plastic k-cup. If you don't clean it right away then you face a big brick of coffee dried up and possibly mold and this is gross!
This is really a great way to make a custom cup of coffee with your Keurig as your not limited to just the store brands available. The more popular brands are more expensive and it ends up being less expensive to buy your favorite brand in a whole bean or ground version and put it in the special reusable filter.
